interest rates.

Town hall
at your desk, BSA training covered in
November Haynes Circle webinars
Credit unions around the state have been
talking about key issues and trends at the
Ohio Credit Union League’s annual regional
Town Hall meetings; now the discussion is
coming to your desk. The year’s final Town
Hall meeting will be hosted as a free Haynes
Circle webinar, Nov. 6, for all credit
unions, especially those with smaller shops
that make it hard to leave the office.
New League
website coming Nov. 1
The paint is still wet, so to speak, but the
newly-constructed Ohio Credit Union League
website will be unveiled Nov. 1. The old
League website was completely torn down and
rebuilt from scratch.
Anniversary of
Bank Transfer Day likely to draw media
attention Nov. 5, 2011, holds a special place in
the hearts of credit unions. Approximately
40,000 consumers turned their backs on big
banks, moving their deposits to credit
unions as part of Bank Transfer Day.

Day is Oct. 18? How are you celebrating this
day commemorating credit union structure,
philosophy, and making a difference in

2013
statewide scholarship program underway
The annual statewide credit union
scholarship program kicked off for the
2012–2013 school year. Each chapter conducts
a local-level scholarship program and
forwards one winner to the Ohio Credit Union
Foundation for consideration of one of five
$3,000 statewide scholarships awarded April
2013.
Member
relationships deepening, finds League
report Every edition of the Ohio Credit Union
Quarterly Performance Summary includes a
“Special Section” that takes a deeper look
at a specific issue. The second-quarter
edition explored the evolution of member
relationships and found that Ohio credit
unions lag the nation in member penetration,
5% compared to 5.8%.

local chapter board offers the perfect
opportunity to develop and enhance
leadership skills while supporting the
greater good.
Romanian CU
officials visit Ohio for marketing
insight Four Romanian credit union officials
traveled 5,147 miles to Ohio earlier this
month to learn modern marketing strategies
from the Ohio Credit Union League and the
state’s credit unions. Through a partnership
between the League and Federation of
Romanian Credit Unions (FEDCAR), the four
spent a week visiting with credit union and
League leaders to discuss strategies to
build their visibility and membership with
limited resources.
Northwest Chapter’s online Finances 101
wins national award The Northwest Chapter’s Finances 101:
Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk reality online
game received first place, in its category,
for the national Desjardin Youth Financial
Education Award.
Free
webinar, Oct. 22, explores helping
families build assets
Credit unions interested in learning about
the Assets for Independence (AFI) Program
are invited to attend a free Oct. 22
webinar. The webinar, hosted by the National
Credit Union Association’s Office of Small
Credit Union Initiatives, will explain how
the federal grant program encourage savings
by low-income individuals through individual
development accounts.

cunamutual.com. It is the first step in an
ongoing journey to improve customers' online
experience, and creates the framework for
continuous upgrades and enhancements.

National Association have what you need.

Miami Valley, Cleveland Chapters hold
successful legislative events
The Miami Valley Chapter held a legislative
luncheon attended by more than 20 credit
union representatives and five lawmakers,
headlined by Congressman Steve Austria
(R-Beavercreek). Issues discussed included
credit union legislation and looming
financial cliff, job creation, the economy,
and state business initiatives. Joining
Austria at the event: State Reps. Jim Butler
(R-Oakwood), Bob Hackett (R-London), Mike
Henne (R-Clayton) and Roland Winburn
(D-Dayton).
Northeast Chapter
vendor night, Oct. 23 Mingle with vendors and network with
your credit union peers in an informal
atmosphere at the Oct. 23 Northeast Chapter
event. Reservations are due Oct. 18 for the
event at DeRubertis Party Center in Madison.
