Get Thinking:
Does an organization’s passion die with its founders?
The last of six original founders of Bob Evans died last week. It got me thinking: Can an organization’s mission and purpose survive the loss of its founders? Can the passion for purpose be carried forward by a new generation? Being an 80+-year-old Movement, many credit unions are in the same situation as Bob Evans; their founders are or are nearly gone. Are credit unions as committed and focused as when they were founded?

Best Practice:
CU finds multiple ways to constantly give back
Wright-Patt CU, the state-level winner of the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Member Service Award in its asset category, won second place nationally for its “You Save or We Pay” campaign, which aimed to save members $10 million by refinancing loans with other financial institutions. To be honored at the 2013 Governmental Affairs Conference, the program invited members to spend 20 minutes with a Financial Solutions Coaches to save $50 or more. Far surpassing its goal, the initiative saved members more than $20 million through mortgage loan and auto-loan refinancing specials that helped them pay off loans faster and at lower interest rates.
