Ohio General
Assembly Hears Message: Credit Unions Safe, Sound, Secure
Columbus, Ohio (April 1, 2009) – Nearly 80 credit union leaders
from across Ohio converged on Capitol Square yesterday to share
insight into credit union initiatives with their state
legislators. In all, 82 meetings between Ohio General Assembly
members and credit union representatives were held, with
discussions centering on mortgage moratoriums and allowing
credit unions to accept public deposits.
Dubbed Credit Union Day at the Statehouse, attendees were also
invited to listen to top Ohio legislative and political leaders
discuss their agendas between meeting with lawmakers.
Highlighting the speaking portion of the day’s agenda were House
Speaker Armond Budish (D-Beachwood), Senate Finance and
Financial Institutions Chair John Carey (R-Wellston), Ohio
Treasurer of State Kevin Boyce, and Auditor of State Mary
Taylor. Credit union regulators from the Ohio Division of
Financial Institutions also addressed the contingent.
Ohio Credit Union League General Counsel John F. Kozlowski
deemed the day an overwhelming success. “We have great credit
union leadership in the state of Ohio and they understand the
importance of building relationships with their local leaders,”
said Kozlowski. “With so many pieces of legislation focused on
financial institutions, we need to make sure our state leaders
understand that our credit unions are safe, sound, secure, and
ready to lend.”
A
reception sponsored by OCUL Services Corporation (OSC) was held
at the Hyatt on Capitol Square after the meetings concluded.
OSC hosted the contingent of credit union leaders and invited
all Ohio House and Senate members to mingle with their credit
union constituents.
