League Employee Retires After 36 Years
of Dedication to Ohio Credit Unions
Dublin, Ohio (June 26, 2008) – When it comes to the Credit Union
Movement in Ohio, Ohio Credit Union League Special Projects
Manager John Rowley is an encyclopedia of knowledge, statistics,
and history. On a night when the League recognized his more than
36 years of service, Rowley shared his thoughts on the past,
present, and future of credit unions in Ohio and thanked his
colleagues for what he said has been a thousand-mile journey that
began with a single step.
“I
have had the unique opportunity to work in an industry whose
philosophy of ‘People Helping People’ is the same as mine,” stated
Rowley in his official notice of retirement. “I have strived to
be of service to everyone I have worked with by being friendly,
helpful and reliable. These are the qualities I hope people will
remember me by.”
Rowley’s legacy
at the League includes serving under seven different League
presidents and working at three different League locations in
Columbus. His many roles included overseeing education outreach
for credit union management, staff, and volunteers and he is
recognized statewide for his leadership in training and
development of credit union staff. Most recently, Rowley served
as the voice of small credit unions in the state, listening to the
needs of Ohio’s smaller credit unions and advocating on their
behalf. He has also been instrumental in the success of the
League’s annual credit union conventions.
“The respect John
has gained across credit unions both statewide and nationally is a
testimony to his sense of responsibility, professionalism, and
class that have long been his calling cards as a League employee,”
said OCUL President Paul Mercer. “His lighthearted personality
will truly be missed, and his knowledge and passion is impossible
to replace.”
Rowley’s retirement will allow him to fulfill his desire to be a
“full time husband, father, and grandfather.” Much of his
retirement will be spent traveling with his wife Cynthia,
including to their favorite destination, Sedona, Arizona.
Said Rowley, “The
Ohio Credit Union League has been my home for many years and I
will truly miss being part of the wonderful future that it has in
store.”
