Ohio Foundation Grants $5,000 in Relief to Iowa Colleagues
OCUL to promote relief efforts to Web site visitors
Dublin, Ohio (June 20, 2008) – The Ohio Credit Union Foundation
(OCUF) announced the disbursement of a $5,000 Disaster Relief
Grant to the Iowa Credit Union Foundation to assist credit unions,
their employees, volunteers, and members affected by the ongoing
floods. This is the first disaster relief grant issued by OCUF in
2008.
“Thousands of our Midwest friends are suffering as a result of
this record flood event,” said Becky Hart, Executive Director of
the Ohio Credit Union Foundation. “The Foundation and its credit
union contributors from across Ohio are proud to be able to
provide this grant to the victims of the devastating floods and we
will continue to encourage additional donations from credit unions
in our state.”
According to the CUAid.coop Web site, more than 20 credit union
locations in several metropolitan areas have closed due to flood
conditions, and many others have been impacted by Internet and
phone outages occurring throughout Iowa. The Ohio Credit Union
League has placed a link to the CUAid Web site prominently on its
Web site in hopes of driving additional traffic to the flood
relief effort. The Ohio CU League is also encouraging its member
credit unions to consider donating to the efforts.
In
2007, the Ohio Credit Union Foundation provided $85,000 in
disaster relief assistance. The funds were provided to credit
unions and credit union organizations to assist teachers who lost
uninsured personal classroom supplies in both floods and fires;
help members replace necessities such as food, clothes, and
furniture lost during August floods in Ohio; help schools replace
art classroom supplies and cover other uninsured losses sustained
during floods; assist victims of the California wildfires, and
victims of an earthquake in Peru. OCUF’s goal is to grant $250,000
in 2008, its 10-year anniversary.
