Gary Officer was named executive director of the National Credit Union Foundation in 2001.

He is an affordable housing professional who has worked in that field since 1990. During that time, he has held leadership positions with both the Lakefront SRO Corporation in Chicago and the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership. 

Prior to his appointment as the head of the National CU Foundation, Officer developed over 500 units of housing for homeless people in Chicago and raised over $2 million to develop 2,000 units of affordable housing in Boston.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts (Hon) Political Science from the University of Manchester, England, in 1985 and Master of Science Msc (Econ) in Economics and International Relations from the London School of Economics in 1990.
