Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Convention & Expo?
It's a three-day event planned by the Ohio Credit Union System
exclusively for Ohio credit union leaders, staff, and volunteers,
featuring timely education sessions, powerful speakers, a huge
exposition hall, entertainment, and networking with peers.
Where is it?
The Convention & Expo moves to downtown Cleveland this year at the
Cleveland Convention Center and the Renaissance Hotel. The downtown area
is full of exciting sites, including the homes of three professional
sports teams, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Great
Lakes Science Center, The Flats entertainment district, and many of
Ohio's best
restaurants. In addition, many
activities are available in downtown.
When is it?
The Convention & Expo runs Thursday, April 13, to Saturday, April
15.
When can I register?
Registration packets will be mailed to all Ohio credit unions on Feb.
22. Register before March 10 to secure Early Bird discounts. Register by
check, credit card, or by debiting your credit union's Corporate One FCU
account.
Where can I stay in Cleveland?
The Ohio Credit Union League has reserved rooms at the Renaissance
Cleveland Hotel (the Convention's host hotel), the Marriott
Society Center, and the Sheraton
Cleveland City Centre. We recommend you reserve your rooms as soon
as possible beginning on Feb. 22. The evening entertainment events will
be held at the Renaissance Hotel. All other events will be in the
convention center. You can reserve rooms through the Greater Cleveland
Convention & Visitors Bureau beginning Feb. 22. A Hotel Reservation
form is included in the registration booklet, and for the first time you
can also reserve your rooms online this year through this web site.
Is space limited for the events?
Although we expect space will be available for most events, we recommend
you register as early as possible to guarantee admission to ticketed
events, including the Saturday Night banquet with entertainment by The
Spinners.
Are there any registration discounts
available?
Yes. All credit unions affiliated with the Ohio Credit Union
automatically receive registration discounts of 50% off registration
charges for non-affiliates (discounts reflected in costs shown on the
registration form). Credit unions with assets under $5 million that are
affiliated with the Ohio Credit Union League can register at 66% off the
normal registration cost. The League and the credit union's Chapter pay
the difference.
Can I attend the OCUL Annual Business
Meeting without registering for the convention?
Yes, if you are the designated voting delegate for a credit union
affiliated with the Ohio Credit Union League. However, you must complete
Form 1 in the registration pack and return it by April 4, 2000.
Delegates who do not register for the convention will receive voting
credentials and a "Business Meeting Only" badge at the
convention on-site registration desk on Thursday, April 13. There is no
charge for the "Business meeting Only" badge.
What is the Expo Hall?
The Expo Hall is one of the most popular attractions of the convention.
Nearly 100 exhibitors demonstrate how they can help your credit union
solve its challenges and make your job easier. Many exhibitors also
conduct activities, drawings, and raffles for prizes. Board Chairs,
CEOs, and their guests are invited to a private reception in the Expo
Hall at 4:30 pm on Thursday, April 13 before the Expo Hall officially
opens.
What special events are included in my
registration fee?
We recommend attending the Friday Opening Session with speaker Willie
Jolley, and the Saturday Opening Session with Jeff Tobe. Both will
feature special productions created just for this convention. In
addition, do not miss the Thursday evening party with Beatlemania Live,
and A Taste of Cleveland (sponsored by R.C. Olmstead) on Friday night.
All of these events are included at no additional charge with your
registration.
