How to take good pictures |

General Photography · Hold a firm stance - brace feet shoulder-width apart for stability · Keep the subject away from walls, to avoid shadows · Pay attention to the background - it might affect the scene · Tilt eyeglasses at an angle away from the camera lens to decrease glare · For a single subject, avoid horizontal shots to prevent empty space · Use the flash outdoors as well as indoors to help decrease shadows · 400 speed film is the best all-around. Good for flash or sunlight, it allows for faster shutter speeds which are needed for action photography · The shutter button is a two-stage button. Depressing the button half-way activates the focus, while fully depressing the button releases the shutter and takes a photo · Don’t crop a photo at a person's joint - it gives the picture a choppy effect · All image files should be formatted as JPEGs at at least 300 dpi and sent as attachments for e-mail purposes · When emailing a picture, make sure the file name is a brief description of the image, for example "ABCCUgrandopening.jpeg" · For photos of your CEO or president, have a professional studio session
Formal/Studio Portraits · When ordering photos, don’t waste money on 8”x11”; order mostly wallets, but also a few 3”x5”s · Hair o Wear your usual hairstyle – don’t try anything new o Style your hair the way you want it before arriving at the studio o Cut hair one to two weeks before photo session o To avoid “five o’clock shadow” schedule an early morning session · Clothing o Clothing color should compliment your skin tone o Avoid high-neck clothing as it obscures the neck o Avoid sleeveless clothing o Wear solids, not prints, which might divert attention from your face · Make-up o The eyes are most important, they are what people see first o Eye shadow adds depth; use neutral tones o Blush gives the face more contour and adds color to skin o Powder reduces sheen and shine on forehead and nose |
